A few months ago one of our most inspirational and dedicated swimmers Bjorn Hoffmann was diagnosed with cancer for which he is currently undergoing treatment.  Charlie Hoffmann, Bjorn's son, together with the Backwell Swimming Club Committee would like to put on a fundraising event in aid of St Peter's Hospice in appreciation of all the support they are providing the whole of the Hoffmann family.  Bjorn is a dedicated Backwell swimmer and recently set a lifelong best freestyle performance at the National Masters event in Sheffield.  He has been Backwell's Men's club captain and has played a vital role in our recent gala successes so it only seemed appropriate that any fundraising event should take place in the pool.

So, on Saturday 23rd September from 5pm we plan to run "Charlie's Swim Club Challenge" at Backwell Leisure Centre from 5pm.  The format of the event will be as follows:

In Round 1, teams of 6 swimmers containing at least one "masters" swimmer (over 18) will take part in 15min timed swimathon 25m relays with the aim of clocking up as many lengths as possible.  We aim to have a minimum of 18 teams taking part.

In Round 2, teams will be pitted against each other based on their lengths totals in round 1 in a series of "fun" relays (top 6 length-scoring teams from round 1 will compete against each other, then the next 6 etc etc) with points awarded.  There will be an award for the winning team from each of the divisions.

We also hope to host a cake sale and raffle to further raise funds.

To take part you need to either get a full team together or alternatively enter as an individual and you will be made into a team by the organisers on the night.  It's first come first served so please get your teams entered as soon as possible.

Entry is £5 per person with all proceeds going to St Peter's Hospice.

Charlie would also like to encourage teams to raise further sponsorship by sharing and donating at his dedicated JustGiving page which can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/ fundraising/charlie-and- backwell-swimming-club
Please get as many people to sponsor you or your team as possible and encourage them to give a "shout out" to the team they're supporting by writing the name or comment in the comment section of the JustGiving process.  We aim to read as many of them out on the night as possible.

The event promises to be a really fun evening with all the proceeds going to a very worthwhile cause.  Charlie and BSC would also like to thank Legacy Leisure who operate Backwell Leisure Centre for donating the pool time to host this event free of charge.

You can download the poster and entry form for the event from the Club Documents page on the club website Charlie's Swim Club Challenge Poster.  Please place all entry forms together with entry fees into the BSC box at the pool.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or talk to Tracy at the pool.

Best Wishes
Colin

PS: Teams will be accepted on a first come first served basis.   We intend that everyone who wants to swim can be accommodated but we do have a limited time for the event and depending on numbers the format of the event may need to be altered to allow for everyone to participate (eg teams of 8 rather than 6 etc).
